The finale needs house rules. At least, that is the conversation beneath That Chief Guy's "I Have 1 Hour to Find His Secret Base - FINALE," the most-watched of his eight uploads this week, with about 282,000 views.

Chief and Blockrat take the seeking roles while Knarfy builds his hideout in a desert pyramid tucked into an unusual terrain drop. Questions help the hunters narrow the map, while curse cards let the hider interrupt their progress. Chief credits Jet Lag: The Game and EightSidedSquare's Hide and Seek mod as inspirations for the format.

Viewers are now picking apart the balance with the seriousness of a tabletop playtest. Several want consequences when seekers die. Others suggest that hunters should use the entrance the hider built rather than break their way inside. The biggest discussion concerns location questions and screenshots: how much information should seekers be allowed once they have reached the right area? It is a very specific dilemma for a series built around keeping a base secret while answering questions about it.

The finale remains the channel's busiest upload by daily views, followed by the newer "9 minute pain simulator" and October's "he's NEVER going to get this one." Subscribers increased modestly over the week, although daily channel viewing is currently well below its usual level.

Among nearby Minecraft channels, rekrap1 and TheobaldTheBird had larger weekly view gains; Chief's channel collected more than a million. Under his finale, the discussion has moved beyond finding Knarfy to deciding what a fair secret-base hunt should allow.

What viewers say

  • I do think there needs to be some sort of penalty for a seeker dying. Instantly respawning with no consequences just makes stuff like the forced bucket clutch only a waste of 10 seconds
  • those north/south and east/west questions need some form of bigger penalty than the cards. it's way too overpowered to cut the map into quarters that quickly.

  • More please. But also: maybe some limits on hunters breaking blocks or tnt within base zone. Maybe "creeper bombing" is legal - (creeper did it) - but not player tnt.
Secret base should be secret base hunt, not 100% pure Jetlag, or Manhunt.
For the Hider, making at least one functional way in, findable or usable by hunters is mandatory.

  • Knarfy only taking 1 card instead of 2 for the first pulls hurt me. Definitely should be a confirmation of "you can keep 2 of these, are you sure you only want 1?"

  • I honestly cannot wait for the Full Mod release!! Hope it's good!

  • I would love to see a second series of this format, but with a few tweaks.

1: Penalty for a seeker dying - always a batch of cards with one to pick from per death
2: Seeker HAVE TO ENTER THE BASE the way it was built - in this case, they would have had to have a book.
3: Nerf a few questions like the base entrance one.

To balance seekers and hider, I would also add a bit more time to make it fair, since all of these points only provide buffs for the hider
  • This would absolutely be a fantastic series
