TechMe0ut's MacBook verdict: lighter matters, touch changes less

Her side-by-side review tests DaVinci Resolve gestures and finds that Apple Pencil support is absent.

  2. 3:13The lighter design produces a noticeable difference in hand.
  3. 4:42A speaker playback comparison tests the two laptops' sound.
  4. 6:47Touchscreen testing in DaVinci Resolve reveals that pinch-to-zoom gestures are unavailable.
  5. 9:16Existing M3 owners may not need to upgrade urgently.
  6. 10:48Apple Pencil does not work with the new MacBook Pro display.

A brighter screen and a lighter bag make a stronger impression than tapping the display. In "The New MacBook Pro Is Impressive, But…", TechMe0ut puts the OLED touchscreen laptop beside her previous M3 model, then asks whether those changes actually alter everyday use.

The weight difference is noticeable in hand, she says, and the new display looks brighter. But testing touch in DaVinci Resolve exposes a limitation: no pinch-to-zoom gesture. Apple Pencil doesn't work on the screen either. Her assessment of touch is measured: "I can't really say it's changed the way that I use my MacBook." Existing M3 owners, she concludes, needn't feel an urgent pull to upgrade.

That practical question carries into the comments. Several viewers are weighing an older MacBook against the new display, cooling and weight, rather than treating touch as the deciding feature. Others want to keep their existing machines. One asks what would suit content and music production coming from a much older laptop.

The review was TechMe0ut's only upload of the week and has drawn about 22,000 views. It now supplies most of the channel's daily viewing momentum, with "Life Lately with the iPhone Duo... Will I Keep It?" the next most active upload. The accompanying apps-and-settings tour continues to draw a smaller audience.

Subscribers held steady at 405,000 over the week, while today's viewing is less than half the channel's usual daily level. Nearby gadget channel Tech.Explain had a much busier week, and Andrew Ethan Zeng's daily viewing stayed close to its usual pace. For TechMe0ut, the new review's useful distinction is between an upgrade you can feel when carrying the laptop and a touchscreen that hasn't transformed how she uses it.

What viewers say

  • I love it when a techtuber goes to the library! Thanks for the video. Would never get touchscreen laptop, but wanted to know if OLED would be worth the difference.

  • I have the M2 Max 2TB 64GB of Ram MacBook Pro (2023). I’m a bit convinced. But not for the touchscreen on the laptop but the weight, cooling and display.
  • Gotta have that as your outro now. “Did it miss the mark or is it in your cart?”

  • I think the 14” is best to get that way it’s more convenient to use it like an iPad.
