Richard Ayoade's Gatorland pitch gets Greg Davies making puns

Taskmaster's studio outtake passes 900,000 views in half a day, while viewers question why the alligator detour missed the broadcast.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,336,161 views a day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (113,065).

The assignment is to bring something that makes you smile when you talk about it, preferably something that will make Greg Davies smile too. Richard Ayoade takes that as an invitation to discuss alligators at considerable length.

In Taskmaster's outtake, "Feels like we've all been to Gaterland, now. #outtake #taskmaster", Ayoade asks Davies whether he likes "gators," then begins making the case for a Florida attraction whose name he initially gets wrong. Alex Horne supplies the correction: Gatorland, not Gatorworld.

Davies points out Ayoade's streetwise terminology. "Look, I can't help it if I'm hip," Ayoade replies. Soon the Taskmaster himself is attempting an alligator-elevator pun, while Ayoade argues that Davies, having never visited Gatorland, cannot possibly have seen as many gators.

The Short has already drawn more than eight times the channel's usual full-day Shorts audience, before its first day is over. The comments are especially busy, too. Viewers keep returning to Horne's running fact checks, Davies's willingness to make a pun and the decision to leave this exchange out of the broadcast. Several want more of this studio digression in the episodes.

After all that talk, Ayoade's actual prize submission turns out to be a Gatorland trucker cap. Horne notes the distance between the elaborate introduction and the souvenir it was introducing.
