That is the setup for the second episode of One Of These People Is Lying's new series, posted on Thursday. Alongside its arrival, daily views across the channel have climbed to roughly 127,000, about eight times their usual level.

The French election question is a particularly neat trap for a trivia game: a bake-off sounds unlikely, but sounding unlikely is not the same as being false. The episode's description poses the question without giving away which story to distrust.

The series returned earlier this month with a new kitchen and questions about Burton-on-Trent perfume, the Gruffalo and UFO sightings. This instalment continues the group's move through peculiar claims, with question producer Lydia Mizon credited for supplying the material that makes honesty difficult to distinguish from a convincing performance.
