The inspiration behind Hanna Harper's "String Cheese" #americanidol

Lionel Richie asks a simple question: what's the song about? Hanna Harper's answer takes American Idol away from the performance and into the overwhelmed moment at home that inspired "String Cheese."

Harper tells the judges she experienced postpartum depression after her youngest son was born. She describes sitting on the couch, not wanting to be touched and praying for peace, while her son kept asking her to open his cheese packaging. Meeting that small request prompted a realization about motherhood, which she describes as her most important ministry. That experience became the song.

"The inspiration behind Hanna Harper's "String Cheese" #americanidol" reached roughly 91,000 views, the most watched of the week's new uploads. Elsewhere, the channel offered a lighter mix: Carrie Underwood choosing karaoke for Luke Bryan and Richie, Lucas Leon getting a prom-king moment after missing his senior prom, and Rae Boyd and Brooks Rosser's relationship announcement.

The freshest momentum belongs to a different conversation. Clay Aiken and Danielle Fishel's podcast banter about nostalgia and getting older is drawing the most daily views among the active uploads, followed by Noah Orion's rock-audition clip featuring Motörhead's "Ace of Spades."

Across the catalog, American Idol collected about 1.5 million views over the week, with subscribers unchanged. Daily viewing is a little above its usual level. In the surrounding talent-show world, The X Factor USA is enjoying a much larger lift in daily viewing; Idol's week has been gentler, with Harper's explanation giving its biggest new clip something beyond the audition itself.
