Clone veterans get new seats in robinswords' Republic Gunship
The HasLab replica showcase joins sword tassels, German basket hilts and Zorro in a four-upload week.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Haslab Republic Gunship - The Definitive Replica
The old pilot figures get the honor of flying the new ship. In "Haslab Republic Gunship - The Definitive Replica," robinswords fills the troop bay with clone troopers from different generations of his collection, then gives his older pilots the cockpit seats.
For a creator whose usual territory is historical swordsmanship, this is a very personal detour. He calls the Republic Gunship his favorite vehicle in all of fiction. His inspection takes in weathering beneath the wings, better-proportioned gun pods and sliding troop doors, with one small reservation: the tail gun's plain, unpainted plastic. He prefers the open-air configuration to the included panels for space flight.
The showcase was the week's most-watched new upload, reaching about 455,000 views, and it is also the channel's busiest video by daily viewing. In the comments, collectors discuss the flight stand's display-space advantages, remember childhood gunship toys and recall the ships arriving to rescue the Jedi in Attack of the Clones.
Swords haven't been displaced from the collection. "DIY Sword Tassel" was the next most-watched new upload and remains the next busiest by daily views. "The Halloween of Zorro" and "Why a German Basket Hilt?" completed the week, the latter working through thumb rings, crossguards and the differences between half and full baskets. An older collectible showcase, "Some of the Best Knight Figures I've Seen," rounds out the uploads carrying the most daily momentum.
The channel added roughly a thousand subscribers over the week, though daily viewing is currently below its usual level. The most distinctive touch in that busy gunship showcase isn't the new tooling: it's the old pilots getting another assignment.

A fine addition to your collection! Those troopers fit so perfectly, I thought they were part of the set. Very nice overall!
@HowDoIDadSee it on YouTubeThe Republic gunahip and the ARC-170 just hit a particular sweet spot in star wars ship design.
@kawibilSee it on YouTubeWait we had a small version of that ship at home as kids. I have no idea where it came from because my family aren’t into star wars. But this video just brought back distinct memories of playing with a toy like that.

And thanks to that flight stand, it actually takes up less functional space in my display than the old gunship did despite being scaled up 20%. Not quite sure what I'll do with the old one yet. It's too rare for me to want to let it go, but I'm short on display space for such a large ship. That said, my collection of LAAT/i's is scattered. One in the bedroom, another in the office, living room, book shelf. I'll probably find a spot eventually.
@robinswordsSee it on YouTubeThat first shot of the gunships at the Petranaki arena when they’re literally cutting down swathes of droids and rescuing the Jedi made me fall in love with the gunship too. The AT-AT and AT-TE rival my favorite land vehicles, but those gunships are kings of the sky.
@williamglass2223See it on YouTubeMy favorite has to be the Y-Wing Starfighter, specifically as it appears in the Original Trilogy. I've owned three different LEGO ones over the years.
@Loki_1789See it on YouTubeNot only does the visual live rent free in my head, I can still hear it.
@magus2003See it on YouTubeA fellow enjoyer of the LAAT Republic Gunship. This transport and the Venator are the reason why the Republic era ships are my favourites.
@heyfell4301See it on YouTubeI like it because it looks shockingly practical for a sci-fi military vehicle.
