There’s a New #1 and Some AFC West Controversy in Rich Eisen’s NFL Power Rankings for Week 9

- 0:23Detroit opens the list in tenth, followed by Pittsburgh's first appearance in Eisen's rankings this season.
- 3:09Denver ranks seventh, immediately below Kansas City, despite the Broncos' head-to-head win.
- 3:52New England moves into fifth, with Jacksonville fourth for its ability to punish opponents' mistakes.
- 5:22San Francisco drops to third during its bye week.
- 6:06Buffalo falls to second despite winning.
- 6:23Chicago takes first, with Eisen emphasizing its defense, running game and offensive line.
Beating Kansas City wasn't enough to get Denver above the Chiefs in Rich Eisen's Week 9 power rankings. Eisen places the Broncos one spot below the team they just defeated, giving his comment section a question to chew over: how much should the result itself count?
The segment drew roughly 80,000 views in seven hours, a much faster start than a typical regular upload on The Rich Eisen Show. Its comments had already grown to many times the channel's usual full-day total.
Viewers keep returning to Denver's head-to-head results, pointing out that Jacksonville also sits above the Broncos. Others question whether Kansas City's near-misses are getting more weight than Denver's wins. A separate thread makes the case for Minnesota, which drops out of the list altogether.
At the top, Eisen goes further than his earlier discussion of Chicago as a Super Bowl contender: the Bears are now his first choice. He praises their defense, running game and offensive line, moving them above Buffalo even though the Bills won. San Francisco also slips a place during its bye week.
There is room for a smaller breakthrough, too. Pittsburgh makes its first appearance on Eisen's list this season, with its defense helping earn a place between Detroit and Cincinnati.
The rankings are a sponsored segment. Alongside Chris Brockman and T.J. Jefferson, Eisen offers a reminder that his list isn't simply a sorting of win-loss records. For the Denver viewers asking about Kansas City, that distinction is precisely the argument.

"You are what your record says you are" ..unless you're the Chiefs on a Rich list and you were on the 1 yard line 🙃
@jaybroncos30See it on YouTubeI guess "almost" wins count for Chiefs, but no one else.

While I don't think the Vikings are a top 5 team, having them out of the top 10 after losing just one game seems crazy to me. I think they could beat the Bengals or Steelers. And while I don't disagree with de-ranking the Seahawks, going from out of the rankings to #3 to out of the rankings again has to be the funniest thing I've ever seen in this segment.
