Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 158,660 views a day, 15 times a normal first day on this channel (10,443).

Damien Harris isn't giving his alma mater a pass. Faced with Alabama's place in the opening College Football Playoff rankings, the former Crimson Tide running back points straight to the result he thinks should count against it: Tennessee beat Alabama by two scores.

Alabama sits fifth, while Tennessee is down in thirteenth. For Harris, that gap raises a question about what the committee is actually rewarding.

"We are learning the committee's thought process. We're not necessarily learning about who are the best teams," he says. Then comes the more memorable version: "We're seeing what flavors of ice cream the committee likes, and they like whatever they serving in Tuscaloosa."

The CBS Sports College Football Short drew roughly 155,000 views before its first day was over, far beyond the channel's usual start for the format. Its comments were already about thirty times as numerous as on a typical first day.

Viewers are picking up on Harris's Alabama connection, questioning how strength of schedule is applied and debating whether the Crimson Tide's placement is justified. Some self-identified Alabama supporters also question the ranking, even while accepting the advantage it gives their team.

The committee's choices have supplied more than one talking point for the channel. A separate Brian Jones clip questions Alabama being placed ahead of Texas, while Aaron Taylor's proposed playoff bracket also drew an unusually fast start. Harris's pointed assessment has attracted the largest audience of those three uploads so far.
