Reed Timmer smells the burn scar in Encinal's floodwater

Two New Mexico field reports anchor the week, with logs and charred debris sweeping through Encino Creek.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

The water turns darker, and Reed Timmer notices something the camera cannot capture: the smell of ash. Large logs sweep through the muddy torrent in his Encinal, New Mexico report, turning an arroyo into a fast-moving channel of debris.

"It's starting to get that ashy smell. This is a classic debris flow now," he says. Timmer identifies evidence of an upstream burn scar and reports that the water is crossing the road. The warning he describes was active during filming, not a forecast for today.

That report drew the largest audience of his two uploads this week, reaching roughly 51,000 views. His description also reports flooded vehicles and structures and a casino evacuation along I-40. The other upload moves to Roswell, where he describes a slow-moving supercell, a flash flood warning and a possible flood wave toward Hagerman.

Roswell is attracting the most daily viewing now, with Encinal close behind. The earlier "Sometimes you have no choice but to activate flash flood mode!" also remains among the channel's busiest videos, keeping the desert flood theme running across the recent catalog.

The channel added about 10,000 subscribers over the week, although daily viewing is currently a little over half its usual pace. Nearby in weather coverage, Max Velocity - Severe Weather Center had a larger viewing week and the same weekly subscriber gain. For Timmer, the distinctive detail is at creek level: not simply how much water is coming downstream, but what its changing color, smell and cargo reveal.
