Mike Johnson rejects the premise. Pressed by Laura Ingraham about unfavorable polling, the House speaker insists the surveys are missing what voters understand about the election.
"I'm telling you, the polling is inaccurate. The American people understand this is a contrast election," Johnson says in the interview footage featured in David Shuster's Rebel HQ report.
The segment opens with Fox News' updated House forecast, which puts Democrats at 223 seats, enough for a majority, while leaving additional districts as toss-ups. That is a forecast, not an election result. Shuster then turns to Senate contests where the cable-news discussion is less comfortable for Republicans than the states' partisan histories might suggest.
One telling detail comes from Texas: Bret Baier contrasts Donald Trump's large winning margin in Lubbock County with Ken Paxton's narrower lead. On CNN, Republican commentator Scott Jennings voices concern about Texas, Kansas and Alaska.
The report drew more than 360,000 views in eight hours, an unusually fast start for Rebel HQ's regular videos. Its comment section also surpassed the channel's usual full-day volume several times over, with repeated calls not to treat favorable polling as a substitute for voting.
Johnson's response gives the report its central tension: while Ingraham presses him on the possibility of Republican losses, he argues that the polling itself is wrong. Shuster follows that exchange by challenging Johnson's account of gas prices under Biden and Trump.
