rctestflight's endurance course needs its own miniature lawnmower

Daniel Riley's second R/C mileage episode mixes worn-out bearings, improvised repairs and a trail that refuses to stay clear.

The cars aren't the only things making progress: the grass is growing into their course. In "Can an R/C Car Hit 100,000 Scale Miles (Episode #2)", Daniel Riley attaches a miniature mower trailer to tackle horsetails and tall grass, then brings in a metal R/C bulldozer fitted with saw blades.

rctestflight posted nothing new this week, but that endurance experiment remains its busiest video, with roughly 1.5 million views in total. Two autonomously guided vehicles, a cheaper Mad Watt and a more expensive YiKong six-wheeler, follow an underground wire through months of weather and mechanical wear. Riley keeps finding ways to send them back out, even crafting a replacement joint for one car from the other's broken parts.

Not every detour earns its keep. A supercapacitor proves too heavy and loses voltage quickly; an indoor mileage treadmill gets abandoned because of noise and mechanical unreliability. The episode includes a sponsored university segment, as well as the outdoor testing and eventual component teardowns.

The earlier "Can an R/C Car Hit 100,000 Scale Miles? Self Driving Edition" is the channel's next-busiest upload, followed by its blown-wing aircraft build. Overall daily viewing is well below its usual level, and subscribers held steady this week. Nearby DIY channel Electrician U had a slightly larger weekly audience, while Homeworthy had a substantially busier week.

For Riley, the endurance test also becomes an exercise in keeping the test itself working: an animal chews through the guidance wire, and growing grass blocks the lap sensor.
