Rank Dawg's Alligator Core, Part 4, finds its crowd on day three
The fourth round of reptile rankings barely moved on its first day. It now leads a week of sea lions, bugs and chihuahuas on the clips channel.
Why this story? The video is running at 125,787 views a day, 30 times its usual pace (4,185).
Ranking Best Alligator Core (Part 4) 🐊
More than 130,000 views, nearly all of them from a single day: that is where "Ranking Best Alligator Core (Part 4) 🐊" stands three days after it went up. Its first day had been modest, with fewer than 4,000 views. Then the short took off, running about thirty times faster than its usual pace.
Rank Dawg is a clips channel. It builds ranked Shorts out of other people's animal footage. The about text puts the craft in the edit: every clip hand-picked and sequenced for a hook and a payoff, with keyframed captions, sound design and color grading added on top. The "core" titles work as a running series of numbered countdowns, one animal at a time. That the alligators have reached a fourth installment says something about how often the channel comes back to them.
The comment section is small, but it is all about the countdown. More than one viewer singles out No. 3 as the cute one, another thinks No. 2 looks happy, and one jokingly takes offense on behalf of a crocodile that got called ugly.
The rest of the week was a parade of other animals. "Ranking Best Sea Lion Core 🦭", posted the same day, is closing in on 90,000 views, and the bug and animal-costume rankings sit in the tens of thousands. The chihuahua and German shorthaired pointer entries are further back. Across the channel, the day ran well below its usual pace, as it did for several big pet channels near its size, among them Capo & Taya and Brandywine Dog Academy. On a quieter day, the alligators did most of the work.
