Brave Man Frees A Coyote Stuck In A Fence

A coyote walked free. Sassy, the channel that gathers animal-rescue clips from around the world, posted the short moment on September 30. A coyote is stuck fast in a fence, a man stops, and he carefully cuts the fence away from around it. The description says the animal stayed remarkably calm through the whole job, then got away safely once it was loose.

The clip had passed 1.4 million views eight hours after it went up. That puts it on course for about eleven times what a new Sassy upload usually draws on its first day. It is a big jump even for a channel that has been busy lately. As we reported here, Sassy crossed a million subscribers only days ago, not long after a jaguar clip swam past ten million.

The comment section has split into two conversations. One is about the coyote. Many viewers wonder how long it had been trapped, and some guess days. Others point out how worn out it looked, or how surprised it seemed that anyone would help. The other conversation is about the rescuer, and above all about the cigarette that, by many viewers' accounts, never left his lips while he worked. Some are even trading guesses about the brand.

The coyote has plenty of company. Sassy's last few days have been a procession of stuck animals. A goose was tangled in rope. A giant leatherback sea turtle was guided out of a swamp near Oping Beach in Indonesia. A snapping turtle was pulled from a flooded pond's overflow pipe. An echidna was carried out of the rising Macquarie River near Warren, New South Wales. The goose clip, two days older, still has more views than the coyote, but not by much.
