Nearly 900,000 views in seventeen hours: that is where "Too Smooth From Shaqiri 🤩" stood after going up on the Premier League's channel on Tuesday.

That is roughly fourteen times the audience a new upload here usually draws on its first day. It arrived while the league's channel as a whole was running well below its normal daily pace, and while Liverpool, Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea were all in a quieter spell of their own. Likes climbed into the thousands, but comments stayed in the low hundreds.

The title offers little beyond a name and a starry-eyed emoji. Xherdan Shaqiri's Premier League years came first at Stoke City, who signed him from Inter in 2015, and then at Liverpool. It was at Anfield in December 2018 that he came off the bench and scored twice against Manchester United.

Yesterday it was Okocha. Today another left-footed entertainer has the channel's top spot.
