Video taking off 19x its usual first day

news.com.au's gloomy graph draws nineteen times its usual start

A day after an awards-show reel led the channel, a plain economics title about Australia pulls ahead while the rest of the channel runs slower than normal.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 116,385 views a day, 19 times a normal first day on this channel (6,004).

News broadcasters were in a lull, and news.com.au was part of it. LBC and Times Radio were both drawing less than usual, and the Australian news site's own channel was running at roughly two-thirds of its normal daily pace. One upload went the other way.

"Graph reveals why Australia is in trouble" passed 100,000 views in under a day. A new video here usually settles for a few thousand on its first day, and this one is on course for about nineteen times that.

The subject has changed sharply since the last breakout. That one was a reel of iconic moments from the MTV Video Music Awards, pop spectacle from the other side of the Pacific. This time the draw is homegrown and far less glamorous: a single chart, and a title that promises it explains what has gone wrong for the country. The title does not say which graph it is.

The video has also got people talking, with roughly one comment for every three likes, a lively ratio for the News Corp Australia site's channel.
