Getting supporters to vote and changing skeptical voters' minds are different jobs. In Israel's final campaign stretch, Benjamin Netanyahu urges loyalists in Dimona to turn out, while Naftali Bennett sits with young people in a Haifa café, trying to soften their reservations about him.
Israel's Channel 13 News follows those encounters in a report narrated by Maya Aiden, published before the October 27 parliamentary election. Its title, "הסיסמאות, ההבטחות - וההכפשות: הקמפיינים בישורת האחרונה", means "Slogans, promises and smears: Election campaigns enter the final stretch."
Netanyahu, the prime minister and Likud leader, meets supporters at a restaurant in the southern city of Dimona, where the gathering includes a birthday celebration. His message is that persuasion is no longer necessary among this crowd: the task is getting people to the polling station. Elsewhere in the report, he emphasizes the Iranian threat and cooperation with US President Donald Trump. A later stop takes him to Yarka, a Druze town in northern Israel, where supporters welcome him warmly.
Bennett, a former prime minister leading the Together alliance, takes a more conversational approach in Haifa. Sitting across from young locals, he explains how his position on LGBTQ rights changed and says he supports full equality. Before leaving them in the street, he gives them the traditional priestly blessing.
In Beersheba, Gadi Eisenkot, the former military chief who leads Yashar, frames the election as a decision about Israel's identity. He also criticizes years of an us-and-them political culture. One resident predicts an Eisenkot premiership if turnout is high between Gedera and Haifa, an assessment offered by a voter, not a forecast established by the report.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, the national security minister and leader of far-right Otzma Yehudit, addresses a gathering in Kiryat Ata. His pitch centers on stronger state authority, tougher punishment and expanded access to firearms. He presents the firearms reform as an achievement, saying it has brought 300,000 handguns in a year and a half.
The report ends its campaign encounters with Bennett's street-side blessing, following a café conversation in which the political pitch depended on answering doubts rather than rallying committed supporters.
