Nithya Raman, projected winner of LA mayor's race, on whether she still plans to fire LAPD chief
Nithya Raman says she has already called Jim McDonnell. What she does not give is a direct yes or no on whether she intends to fire him.
That exchange with NBC4's Alex Rozier was NBCLA's most-watched new upload of the week, reaching roughly 27,000 views. Asked about potential LAPD cuts and the chief's future, Raman emphasizes continuity through the transition: "Because public safety is the most important service that the city is delivering to its people." She says discussions with McDonnell will continue as she prepares to take office in mid-December.
The mayoral handover runs through the station's busiest new videos. Darsha Philips reports on Raman addressing supporters after Karen Bass conceded, while Karma Dickerson introduces the urban planner behind the projected victory. Robert Kovacik's campaign reflection with Bass gives the week's coverage the outgoing mayor's perspective too.
Across 35 uploads, NBCLA collected about three million views and added subscribers, though daily viewing is currently below its usual pace. Its weekly view gain sits near the middle of the nearby local-station group; KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco had a larger viewing week, while WCCO - CBS Minnesota is seeing a pronounced lift in its daily audience.
Raman's police answer and victory remarks carry the strongest daily momentum. Alongside them, a West Hollywood report is finding an audience for another local government change: an ordinance allowing three or more adults in a committed relationship to register a multi-partner domestic relationship with the city.
