Mortismal Gaming enjoys Phantom Blade Zero, except for the bosses

His completionist review gives the combat a buy recommendation, while Pool of Radiance supplies a much less forgiving verdict.

Press to jump

  1. 1:36He places Phantom Blade Zero closer to Devil May Cry or God of War than a Soulslike.
  2. 4:09The unlockable 66 Days difficulty limits the player to 66 deaths.
  3. 14:40Weapon combinations and guard breaks impress him, but repeated boss archetypes weaken the combat.
  4. 20:10Severe frame drops lead him to advise against playing on Steam Deck.
  5. 23:23Despite his reservations, he recommends buying the game.

The combos convinced him. The bosses did not. Mortismal Gaming's most-watched new upload, "Phantom Blade Zero - Review After 100%", finds a satisfying action game beneath some frustrating repetition.

He places it closer to Devil May Cry or God of War than a Soulslike, praising weapon combinations and rewarding exploration while finding too many boss encounters built around familiar archetypes. It ultimately earns a buy recommendation. There is a practical warning, too: he advises against playing on Steam Deck after encountering severe frame drops.

The review reached roughly 174,000 views. In the comments, players compare their own experiences of the bosses, with some calling them a favorite part, while others discuss the adjustment period before the combat starts to click. His speed at completing lengthy games is another recurring talking point.

Seven uploads made this a busy week. "My Next Eight Reviews" laid out plans including Enshrouded, Grim Dawn and XCOM 2; the channel also returned to Crimson Desert's DLC and tried Queen's Domain by popular demand. The Elder Scrolls upload mixed discussion of the Sentinel title and Hammerfell setting with speculation about where the game might go.

The sharpest verdict arrived in "Pool Of Radiance: Ruins Of Myth Drannor - This Game Is Terrible". Mortismal credits SNEG with making the game more readily available, but has little affection for what became available. That upload now carries the channel's strongest daily momentum, followed by the Elder Scrolls discussion and Queen's Domain.

Across the catalog, weekly views reached about 1.5 million, the largest gain among the nearby gaming-review and commentary channels. Subscribers were unchanged, and daily viewing is below its usual pace. GameLinked, meanwhile, is having an unusually busy viewing day. For Mortismal Gaming, the week's distinctive pairing is a qualified recommendation for Phantom Blade Zero and a decidedly unqualified title for Pool of Radiance.

  • I have 1000 hours in BG3, DOS2, WOTR all the CRPGS that have been discussed on this channel. Close to 1000 hours each and I’m not even close to 100 percent on any of them. I haven’t tried but still it’s amazing how fast he gets these done. Especially blind. Cheers mate
