A missile rises from a barge off Taean, on South Korea's western coast, before the footage cuts to an impact at sea. South Korea's Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) reports that the images show a successful first test launch of a domestically developed hypersonic missile, witnessed by President Lee Jae-myung.
The compilation was uploaded on November 7, but its opening reports originally aired on October 9, 2026. Its final section comes from October 2024. These are separate demonstrations of military capability, not footage of a single new exercise.
The October reports examine why authorities publicized a launch previously shared with only a small circle of senior military officials. The presidential office released 50 photographs, according to the report. Lee argues that preserving peace requires strong deterrence and defense capabilities. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Jin Young-seung similarly says the public needs a fuller account of the military's capabilities.
MBC interprets the disclosure as both pressure on North Korea and a demonstration of technological confidence. Defense researcher Shin Dae-ik explains that military references to striking key targets encompass major command-and-control sites as well as nuclear and missile facilities.
The report then turns to a different weapon: the Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile. Footage shows Lee inspecting it, while the narration describes an eight-ton warhead. The upload's title, "극초음속 이어 '괴물 미사일'도?.. 1백m 뚫는 K벙커버스터 현무-5 [뉴스.zip/MBC뉴스]", asks whether a "monster missile" follows hypersonics and describes Hyunmoo-5 as a bunker buster capable of penetrating 100 meters. That penetration figure is the report's claim; the opening sea-impact footage concerns the separate hypersonic weapon.
The archival section shows Hyunmoo-5, the L-SAM air-defense system and an American B-1B bomber during the 2024 Armed Forces Day events. Then-president Yoon Suk Yeol warns North Korea against relying on nuclear weapons for its survival. The compilation closes by reporting criticism of consecutive downtown military parades, including questions about their cost and associations with the military-rule era.
