JT株が19%超下落 子会社がロシア管理下になり売り殺到 日本政府は措置撤回求める【グッド!モーニング】(2026年11月7日)
Japan has demanded that Moscow reverse a decision placing the assets of Japan Tobacco's local subsidiary under Russian corporate management, as investors sell shares over fears for its business in Russia.
Japan's TV Asahi, reporting through its All-Nippon News Network channel ANNnewsCH, says JT shares fell more than 19% on November 6, closing at the exchange's daily downward price limit. The report links the selling to concern about the impact of the Russian decision on the company's operations.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara says Japanese officials visiting Russia joined the ambassador in protesting to the Russian government and seeking an urgent reversal. He frames the intervention as protecting the legitimate interests of Japanese citizens and companies.
Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama also says Japan has protested through diplomatic channels, and that she discussed the response with Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. The Finance Ministry holds more than a third of JT's shares, giving the government a direct ownership interest alongside its diplomatic role.
The November 7 Good! Morning segment then looks beyond tobacco. It describes the February 2024 transfer into Russian management of all shares in a manufacturing plant held through a German subsidiary of Japanese machine-tool maker DMG Mori. According to the report, DMG Mori said the shares had been forcibly expropriated and removed the business from its consolidated accounts after losing control. The broadcaster cites a regional development corporation as saying production subsequently resumed under Russian management.
The report also describes German supermarket group Metro being placed under Russian management in September, followed by an announcement of a donation toward Russia's war in Ukraine. Together, these examples put Japan's demand over JT in the context of earlier foreign businesses losing authority over assets they owned in Russia.
