Virat Kohli's walk out at Lord's passes seven million on a week off
The 76-day-old clip of India's batting great stepping onto the Home of Cricket's turf is drawing more daily views than anything else on MCC's channel, with Babar Azam and Joe Root behind it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Virat Kohli walks out at Lord's
Seventy-six days old, and "Virat Kohli walks out at Lord's" has passed seven million views. The clip is exactly what it says: India's great batter making the walk from the Pavilion onto the most famous field in cricket, the one the club calls the Home of Cricket.
Marylebone Cricket Club posted nothing new over the past seven days, and the channel barely noticed. Its daily views are running well above their usual level, and the Kohli walk is responsible for most of that: on its own it is pulling in close to 150,000 views a day, a remarkable pace for a summer video built on a few seconds of a man in whites walking down some steps.
The same idea has two siblings from late August. "Babar Azam Lord's walk out" is closing in on a million views, and "Joe Root walks through the famous Lord's Pavilion" follows England's leading Test run-scorer through the building itself, the Long Room and all. Both move at a gentler clip, which says something about how far Kohli's audience travels.
Among the sports channels near its size, the All Blacks and Johnny Ringer are having the liveliest stretches, while SailGP and TNT Sports are running quieter than usual. Lord's sits in the middle of that company by subscribers, about 1.3 million, and the subscriber count held where it was this week. With no new upload, the channel is carried by one walk across the grass.
