A Ted Cruz backfire at the Jack Smith hearing, as Michael Popok tells it

Fifteen uploads went up, with Senator Richard Blumenthal and Dr. Caroline Heldman among the guests, and the channel drew close to twice its usual daily views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Close to twice the usual. Legal AF, the MeidasTouch Network channel led by trial lawyer Michael Popok, is drawing far more views a day than it normally does, and most of the lift comes from a single busy October 2.

The video carrying it is Popok's take on Jack Smith's Senate testimony. As the description tells it, Senator Ted Cruz opened a door during the hearing and the former special counsel used it to talk about new Mar-a-Lago evidence, despite what the video calls Judge Aileen Cannon's "gag order." Popok bills it as the ultimate backfire. It passed half a million views within half a day, and much of its comment section is about Judge Cannon and her part in the case.

The rest of the fifteen uploads kept to the courtroom. One follows a U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Washington, fired by Todd Blanche's Justice Department about an hour after judges appointed him, then put back in place by a federal judge. Another explains a Supreme Court order on which congressional map Missouri must use. Senator Richard Blumenthal joined Popok for a briefing on a Senate inquiry into an Iran-linked crypto scheme and on his own questioning of Smith, and political scientist Dr. Caroline Heldman sat in for a conversation about the Justice Department's response to a reported rape at Cornell.

Among the political channels of its size, Legal AF gained more views over the week than all but Breezy Politics, about 15.7 million. Several neighbors, Really American, The Daily Signal and Pod Save America among them, are also running well above their usual pace, while Novara Media is closer to normal. Legal AF added 10,000 subscribers along the way.
