The trial was expected to last ten weeks. It concluded after just over three, LBC's Helen Hoddinott reports from Southwark Crown Court, where Russell Brand was convicted of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
Brand was remanded into custody. According to Hoddinott, "the judge told him to expect a significant custodial sentence."
Rather than stopping at the verdict, LBC's report reconstructs the arguments jurors heard. Defence barrister Ian Winter KC argued that Brand's sexual encounters were consensual and that disapproval of his behaviour was not grounds for finding him guilty. Brand also maintained in his testimony that all sexual activity had been consensual.
Hoddinott then recounts evidence from other witnesses, including a former personal assistant and former partners, before turning to the six women whose accusations were heard during the trial. Their accounts were presented behind screens and through recorded police interviews. One woman told jurors she knew she had said no, the report recounts.
The video, which drew roughly 306,000 views since yesterday, closes by reviewing the prosecution and defence's final arguments. Its focus is the distinction at the centre of the trial: not Brand's public reputation, but whether the sexual acts before the jury were consensual.
