Alligator to Zebra: Animal ABCs, in two parts, for Language Learning Market

Meanwhile a three-year-old katakana song keeps teaching Japanese to whoever finds it.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Five hours old and still finding its first viewers, "Animal ABCs | Learn the Alphabet with Cute Animals!" is the newest thing on Language Learning Market. It is a sing-along for toddlers and preschoolers that walks from an alligator through a bear, a cat and a dog all the way to a zebra. A second upload, labeled "Part one," went up the same day, so the song seems to be arriving in pieces as well as whole.

It is a slightly unusual pick for this channel, which built its following on alphabet videos in more than 25 languages. And it is the older multilingual catalog that is busy right now. A katakana song promising the Japanese syllabary in three minutes, posted about three years ago, draws the most daily views of anything on the channel and is past 450,000 in total. Right behind it sits a Turkish alphabet video from the same stretch, billed as taking just 60 seconds. Between them is a newer short on the colour green, taught in English, Arabic and Spanish together, a preview of the channel's own trilingual picture book.

The whole channel is running well above its usual daily pace, about 52,000 views a day against a typical 37,000 or so, even though the new songs have barely started. Among children's learning channels nearby, Rock 'N Learn and Kids Academy are also having lively stretches, while ArtTime Ideas works at a scale of its own, millions of views a day. For a channel whose quiet pages teach the letters of Tokyo and Istanbul, the zebra at the end of the English alphabet is a homecoming of sorts.
