Korean, then German: Rock 'N Learn's phrasebook for small travelers

Both new lessons walk children from "good morning" to brushing their teeth and getting ready for bed, with a dance party in between.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Rock 'N Learn has been making educational programs for children for about four decades, and the formula is easy to recognize: a friendly voice, colorful animated characters, and a phrase repeated until little mouths can say it too. This week the channel used it twice, in two new languages.

First came "Learn Korean for Kids | Useful Korean Phrases for Beginners" on September 26, and three days later its German twin. The two share a script. Each starts the day with good morning, asks what you would like to drink, hunts for things around the house and ends with the bedtime routine of washing hands, brushing teeth and a bath. The Korean video's chapters also promise a dance party along the way. The descriptions suggest a neat trick as well: say each phrase with the voice, then try to say it before the voice does. Each video also points the other way, offered as a way for Korean- and German-speaking children to learn English.

The German lesson is the quicker of the pair. It passed 4,000 views inside two days, about as many as the Korean one has gathered in five.

The channel's older English vocabulary videos are still in steady use. "Baby's First Words," a tour of common objects in and around the home, has passed 150,000 views since spring. "Words Used in and Around the House," which leans toward English learners, keeps nearly the same daily pace. Both are built room by room, from the kitchen to the laundry room.

Among the children's channels nearest it in size, Rock 'N Learn is sixth by subscribers. Elizabeth and Briceida and A for Adley are drawing a little above their usual daily views, and A for Adley Shorts is running below its own.
