Why Jess & Jake chose a school bus over an RV

Their comparison puts steel walls, off-grid living and a custom interior ahead of an easier driving experience.

Why this story? The video is running at 39,791 views a day, 7.6 times its usual pace (5,256).

Jess & Jake put crash-test footage into a question that might otherwise come down to floor plans: why build a home inside a school bus instead of buying an RV?

Their September comparison added about 40,000 views in a day, nearly eight times its usual daily pace. It is an older upload drawing fresh attention while their more recent videos turn to project choices and the cost of bus life.

The couple's case starts with construction. Jess contrasts the bus's steel body with the fiberglass RV in their comparison, presenting durability and safety as reasons for their choice. The crash footage is also a recurring topic in the comments, with viewers discussing crumple zones and what the test shows.

But much of the video is about the less dramatic business of living somewhere every day. Their bus has a larger fresh-water supply, an extensive solar setup and a composting toilet vented through the floor. Jess says their solar system means they rarely have to conserve electricity. Inside, the argument becomes personal: a home they designed themselves rather than a ready-made layout.

They do give the RV a practical advantage. Its handling is closer to a car's, while the bus demands familiarity with air brakes and mountain driving. That trade-off gives their enthusiastic verdict some texture: they chose the home they wanted to build, not the vehicle they describe as easier to drive.
