Godzilla Minus Zero gets a Times Square outing
TOHO's official North American channel adds about 209,000 subscribers in a week, even as daily viewing runs below its usual pace.
Why this story? The channel went from 725,000 to 934,000 subscribers this week.
Shh... the Godzilla is sleeping. 💤 Bring home the plush, now in stock.
Godzilla has made it to Times Square, and TOHO's official North American channel has a promotional clip marking the occasion. Titled "The King of the Monsters has taken Times Square! #GodzillaMinusZero", it puts the film campaign alongside the channel's smaller-scale offerings, from Chibi Godzilla episodes to merchandise spots.
The channel has reached 934,000 subscribers after adding more than a quarter to its subscriber total in a week. That growth comes with an interesting contrast: daily views are running at roughly half their usual level. This is a subscriber surge, not a matching surge in viewing.
The Times Square upload is the most watched of the recent posts listed here, ahead of the Chibi episode and the Godzilla Day announcement. But the channel's much larger attractions remain its movie trailers: the September IMAX trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero is already its second-most-watched regular upload, behind the second trailer for Godzilla Minus One.
