"Any deal would require concessions at the end," Dr. Arman Mahmoudian tells Garrett Wymer. That is the difficulty at the heart of their FOX 35 Orlando interview: an election setback for President Trump does not necessarily make an agreement with Iran easier.
Mahmoudian, a research fellow at the University of South Florida's Global and National Security Institute, says Iranian leaders are pleased by the midterm results. But he outlines sharply different possibilities for Washington: Trump could respond to political weakness with caution, or escalate the military campaign.
The interview drew about 15,000 views in seven hours, already well beyond the station's usual full-day audience for regular videos. Its title, "Trump faces new limits on Iran war with Dems in power," looks ahead to Democratic congressional control. The incoming Congress does not take office until January; the election result itself has not transferred those powers.
Much of the conversation concerns the choices on both sides, rather than a detailed account of congressional restrictions. Mahmoudian warns that miscalculation is not solely an American risk: Iranian decisions also shape whether the conflict escalates.
When Wymer asks about a way out, Mahmoudian argues that a comprehensive agreement has become harder to negotiate, while the existing situation cannot be sustained over the longer term. His proposed alternative is narrower: a limited, transactional diplomatic understanding addressing the parties' immediate concerns, rather than a grand bargain.
