Fiberglass, Rockwool or spray foam? Scott's insulation test finds its season
No new video went up in seven days, and a ten-month-old head-to-head of three wall insulations has passed one and a half million views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Stop Wasting Money! Most Homeowners Are Insulating Walls Wrong
Everyday Home Repairs is running well above its usual pace without posting anything new. The channel belongs to Scott, who says plainly in his about text that he is not a carpenter, electrician or plumber, just a hands-on guy fixing up his own house and his rental properties. That modest pitch has carried him past 1.3 million subscribers, and over the past few days the channel has been drawing roughly 40 percent more daily views than normal.
The video doing the most work is "Stop Wasting Money! Most Homeowners Are Insulating Walls Wrong," which puts fiberglass, Rockwool and spray foam side by side. The description promises that one of them turns out to be a surprising letdown. Close behind is its cousin from the same month, "Most Homeowners Insulate Shed Roofs WRONG (Do This Instead)," where Scott screws 2-inch rigid foam board to the underside of the rafters and leaves an air path from the soffits so the roof deck does not rot. Both are about keeping heat in, and both are picking up just as the weather turns. Maybe early October is simply when people start looking at their walls?
The third, "Drywall Is Dead for Sheds—Here's the Alternative," belongs to the same 12x16 modern shed build, skipping drywall tape and sanding in favor of OSB walls.
Among DIY channels near his size, Engineezy is the loud one this week, and The Luxury Home Show is also running above its usual level. Scott's busy few days come entirely from his back catalog, and it is a back catalog about getting ready for winter.

In insulation ratings like the R-10 Scott mentions for his shed roof, what does a higher R-value mean?
The R in R-value stands for thermal resistance, so a higher number means the material slows heat transfer more.
