Two days after a protest camp in Madrid broke out on euronews, the Spanish capital's housing story has done it again. This time the report is about one person: an 87-year-old pensioner who had been evicted and, according to a tenants union, can now return home.

That is roughly thirteen times what a new euronews upload usually gathers over its whole first day. The rest of the channel was not riding the same wave. Its daily views were slightly under normal, and several big broadcasters of a similar size, CBS Evening News and ABC News (Australia) among them, were also below their usual pace.

The good news in the title comes from the union, not from officials, and the report credits it that way. Rents have been a heated subject in Spain's big cities for years, and Madrid and Barcelona saw large street marches over housing costs in 2024 and 2025. The camp report showed that fight in the street. This one narrows it to a single front door.
