Video taking off 44x its usual first day

Gibbs, Kyler and a Dungeon Crawler Carl detour lift Fantasy Focus

The Week 4 rankings show drew more in twelve hours than NFL Live, Big Day and Bill Barnwell's trade pitches gathered between them on the same day.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 122,917 views a day, 44 times a normal first day on this channel (2,787).

Rankings, mailbag, more rankings: the hour-long Fantasy Focus for Week 4 is the busiest thing on NFL on ESPN right now. It passed 86,000 views in its first twelve hours, on course for a first day more than forty times what a new upload here usually gets.

The lineup is Daniel Dopp, Field Yates and Mike Clay, with Eric Moody answering questions in the chat. They go through quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and tight ends in turn, stop for mailbag questions between positions, and finish with a Fantasy Faceoff that puts Dopp and Clay head to head, then a round of Random Rankings. The description raises two questions. Does Kyler Murray have the friendliest matchup of the week? And will Jahmyr Gibbs live up to Clay's projection of 25.5 points, which the description calls massive?

The comments are less about rankings than about the asides. Many viewers point to a slide that names a team the "Atlanta Hawkeyes" and call it a sneaky topical joke. Others are pleased to hear Dopp bring up Dungeon Crawler Carl, Matt Dinniman's book series, and a few still can't get past his phrasing as the tight ends segment begins. One regular admits, laughing, to two seasons of watching without a league title.

The gap with the rest of the channel's day is wide. NFL Live's preview of Rams against Eagles and Peter Schrager's Big Day panel each sit in the tens of thousands. Among the sports channels nearest in size, TSN and Locoprezident are also busier than usual, but NFL on ESPN as a whole is running furthest above its own normal daily pace.

One viewer asks the panel whether to trade away Brian Thomas Jr. On the same day, in a separate show on the channel, Bill Barnwell and Ben Solak argued that the Raiders should trade for him.
