Channing Tatum on a leash: the 'This Is the End' cameo Eggdar's viewers can't drop
The short is billed as the story of the email Seth Rogen sent at just the right moment, and two more clips Eggdar posted the same day, from I, Robot and Peaky Blinders, also ran far ahead.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 4,973,043 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (349,948).
Seth Rogen Apparently Caught Channing Tatum at the Perfect Time With This Email | This Is the End
A cameo did it. Eggdar, the clips channel that pairs movie scenes with meme captions and trivia, found its latest hit in This Is the End, the 2013 apocalypse comedy Seth Rogen directed with Evan Goldberg, in which a crowd of famous friends play exaggerated versions of themselves. The title points at the story behind one scene: Rogen, it says, apparently caught Channing Tatum with an email at the perfect time.
The scene needs little setup. Tatum turns up late in the film, leashed and barely dressed, as Danny McBride's captive, and the clip ends on a pose that a good share of the comment section has gone on to discuss. Other viewers line it up with his other scene-stealing turns, Bullet Train among them, or quote "My name Jeff" from 22 Jump Street. Some wonder what exactly was in that email.
The short passed 4.7 million views in under a day, many times what a new Eggdar short usually draws on its first day, and its comments came in about six times faster than usual.
It had company. A clip from I, Robot (2004), built on the hint that Sonny never marches in step with the other robots, went up the same day and is nearing two million. A Peaky Blinders short, whose title says Cillian Murphy's shove of a waiter wasn't scripted, has passed a million. By the next morning the channel had already moved on to Anchorman, with Will Ferrell losing it the moment Christina Applegate takes a sip.
