Statins after 75 and a 2026 guideline: Jason Fung's cholesterol case keeps drawing a crowd

No new video went up in seven days, yet a three-week-old talk on LDL and heart disease is closing in on 800,000 views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Jason Fung, the Toronto kidney specialist behind The Obesity Code, posted nothing new over the past seven days, and his channel ran busier than usual anyway.

Most of that traffic comes from one video. "Cholesterol is barely relevant to heart disease." went up three weeks ago and is now near 800,000 views. It is pure Fung: a provocative title, then twenty minutes of hazard ratios. He works through the 2026 American Heart Association cholesterol guidelines and sets LDL beside diabetes, smoking and high blood pressure. Along the way he compares statin use in the US and Japan, looks at dialysis patients (his own specialty) and at a study of adults over 75 who either kept taking statins or stopped. The question he ends on is where worry about the heart is best spent.

Behind it, at a much gentler pace, sit two older talks. One is his look at why so many of his patients drift away from Ozempic, which the description puts down to plateaus and food that stops being a pleasure. The other is an eleven-day-old explainer on extra virgin olive oil, polyphenols, harvest dates and whether you can cook with it.

The channel added about 10,000 subscribers over the week. Among the health and medicine channels near his size it was a lively stretch: Dr. John Campbell and Bryan Johnson both ran far above their usual pace, while Med School Insiders held steady. Fung sits in the middle of that group for views gained, carried almost entirely by a video that tells viewers to worry less about one number on their blood test.
