Round 1 Highlights | 2026 Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship

DP World Tour has put Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm at the centre of its Abu Dhabi opening-round highlights, but not all the discussion is about their swings. Several viewers have a more practical question: are players allowed to wear shorts?

Some ask about the rules, others argue for dressing for the heat, and one viewer explains why long trousers remain their own choice for keeping sand, dirt and grass off their legs. Professional golf's wardrobe has become a talking point alongside the shots.

The upload, "Round 1 Highlights | 2026 Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship", reached roughly 233,000 views in 13 hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full first day for regular videos. Its comment section is also several times busier than usual.

Away from the clothing discussion, viewers mention Rahm's presence and the sound of a crisply struck shot. The channel has also given McIlroy's power a separate showcase: an opening-round drive that reaches the green on the par-four 14th at Yas Links.

I wear long pants and guys make fun of me for it like ‘you’re trying to be on Tour! Lololol’ and it’s really more for functionality. My first round ever I ended up with my legs covered in sand, dirt and grass and I wore long pants my second round and it worked out way better. So I just kept doing that. It just makes more sense in a sport where you’re literally out in nature the entire time 🤷🏻‍♂️
