Flip-flops and ghost armies: Andreas Krieg maps Yemen's war for Double Down News

The security analyst's half-hour breakdown passed 800,000 views, and a three-day-old RAF Fairford video arrived close behind it.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Double Down News posted just two videos this week, and between them they nearly doubled the channel's usual daily audience.

The bigger of the two is a long conversation with Dr. Andreas Krieg, the security analyst who teaches defense studies at King's College London. Its chapters read like a syllabus for a war most viewers only half follow: why Yemen's mountains are so hard to invade, generals pocketing pay for soldiers who never existed, Saudi Arabia and the UAE drifting into two different wars, and the deal that froze the fighting. It drew more than half a million views on its first day and has passed 800,000 since. The comments are mostly about Yemen's fighters themselves, with many viewers returning to the image of the flip-flops in the opening chapter.

The second upload, a video about RAF Fairford billed as the one "they want to ban," went up three days later and is the one bringing in the most views each day now. Its description is a single quoted line, so the title does most of the talking. Further back, Lowkey's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, Israel and Saudi Arabia, a little over a week old, is still finding viewers.

Among political channels of a similar size, the bigger crowds belong to others. Really American, Legal AF and The Daily Signal are all running at more than double their usual pace, while Breezy Politics is a little below its own. Double Down News added about 10,000 subscribers over the seven days, keeping it at roughly 1.2 million.
