Riz Ahmed's Dish order: wet eggs, no salt and vinegar
Angela Hartnett serves adobo-inspired chicken as Ahmed brings childhood nihari and stories of working with Tom Cruise to the table.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Only wet eggs for Riz Ahmed | Dish Podcast
Scrambled eggs answer two questions before Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett have got very far. Riz Ahmed wants them wet, emphatically not rubbery, and he wants them again when the conversation turns to sandwich fillings, preferably on crispy, pan-fried toast.
"Only wet eggs for Riz Ahmed | Dish Podcast" is the most watched of Dish Podcast's ten new uploads, reaching roughly 454,000 views. Ahmed nearly returns to eggs for his toast topping, then changes course to avocado, chilli, lemon and salt. His rejection of salt and vinegar crisps gives viewers another talking point, alongside requests for his childhood favourite, nihari, the slow-cooked spicy curry he describes to the hosts.
The full interview, "Riz Ahmed Loves Unexpected Flavours | Dish Podcast | Waitrose", puts Angela's braised chicken with pickled cucumbers on the menu, inspired by Filipino adobo. Dish is a Waitrose-backed production. Over dinner, the actor and rapper discusses his mother's cooking, being sous chef to his wife, and working with Tom Cruise on Alejandro González Iñárritu's Digger.
The egg quickfire and chicken clip are the channel's busiest uploads right now, with Andrew Garfield's smashburger encounter also drawing substantial daily viewing almost a month after publication. That visit, which was still ahead when we last reported here, has become a durable part of Dish's menu.
Across the week, Dish added about 4.6 million views, a particularly busy showing among the nearby interview channels. Subscribers increased too, though more slowly than over the past month. Russell T Davies supplied a different flavour among the new clips: a Kate Bush tea-party invitation and objections to chilli in everything.
