Video taking off 14x its usual first day

Dead Meat posts all of You're Next, with James A. Janisse as horror host

Adam Wingard's 2013 home-invasion film went up in full with a nine-minute introduction, and it passed 100,000 views in six hours, on course for about fourteen times the channel's usual first day.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 252,912 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (17,695).

A whole movie, this time. Dead Meat is best known for the Kill Count, where James A. Janisse walks through a horror film death by death. Its newest upload skips the recap and hands over the film itself: You're Next, complete, with James on camera for the first nine minutes before the movie begins.

The choice suits a channel that bills itself as a celebration of everything great and awful about horror. You're Next, directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, follows the Davison family to a wedding anniversary getaway that goes wrong when a gang of masked killers surrounds the house. The killers soon learn that one of their targets, played by Sharni Vinson, knows how to fight back. The cast also includes Barbara Crampton, a familiar face from 1980s horror, and filmmakers Joe Swanberg and A. J. Bowen in front of the camera.

The comment section is mostly people getting over the surprise. Several admit they assumed at first that the channel had started pirating. Others compare James's introduction to the old late-night horror hosts, Elvira and Svengoolie among them, or to the way Turner Classic Movies opens its films. A recurring point is how hard many horror titles are to find on streaming, and since Lionsgate released You're Next, some are already asking whether Saw could be next. One viewer writes that this was the film that brought them to Dead Meat in the first place.

The film arrived on the same day as a Fortnite Fortnitemares video and James's sneak peek at Robert Eggers' Werwulf, both of them well behind it.
