Leatherface for October: Mike and Jay re:View The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Tobe Hooper's 1974 low-budget shocker, billed in the description as distributed by the mafia, passed 400,000 views in about half a day.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Mike and Jay Talk About It Ends
How does RedLetterMedia say hello to October? By putting two men in what the description calls a damp warehouse to talk about one of the most uncomfortable movies ever made. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre got the re:View treatment on October 1, and thirteen hours later it had already drawn more than 400,000 views.
It is a fitting pick for the season. Tobe Hooper's 1974 film was made for very little money in the Texas heat, and it went on to become one of the most profitable independent films of its time. The description adds its own footnote: the film was distributed by the mafia.
The week's other upload was a gentler kind of dread. In "Mike and Jay Talk About It Ends," Mike Stoklasa and Jay Bauman chat about a film they both enjoyed. Its ads sold it as a zombie-highway horror movie. By their account it is closer to a laid-back existential thriller about adult life after college, all routines, chores and holidays. It started strong and has settled into a steady crawl.
Further back, Rich Evans and Mark's nearly three-hour Star Trek season one marathon, posted for the show's 60th birthday, keeps finding viewers a month on.
The channel as a whole is running somewhat below its usual daily views. Among similar channels, Rock Movie and House M.D. are having the loud weeks, while History Buffs and Heavy Spoilers are, like RedLetterMedia, a little quieter than normal.
