Sixty times the usual start. That is how C-SPAN's clip of President Trump talking about the trade dispute with Canada opened, on a channel where a new video usually gathers around ten thousand views on its first day.
The video is a short Oval Office moment from Monday. Taking questions from reporters, the president said Canada wants a deal and calls "all the time," but argued that the country has treated the United States unfairly. He added that America has all the energy and lumber it needs. He predicted an agreement within a few weeks, with Canada dropping its tariffs, and described it as "a fair deal" in his own words.
This is C-SPAN doing what it has done since 1979: the non-profit network the cable industry created is known for airing proceedings from Washington in full and without commentary, and this clip is simply the president speaking. On a channel better known for long hearings and full sessions of Congress, a brief answer from the Oval Office carried the day, and the channel as a whole also had a busier day than usual.
