He is Andrew Jones, an independent researcher who runs a group called Noah's Ark Scans. He has spent years on a site near Mount Ararat, Turkey's highest peak, which some believe holds the remains of the ark. Genesis says the ark came to rest on "the mountains of Ararat," and the region has drawn searchers for generations.
Jones told CBN News that his group now has a permit to drill. He says the project runs under Sivas Cumhuriyet University, led by the archaeologist Cenkur Atila, and he offers those details to answer critics who, he says, paint him as a lone wolf "taking pictures and making up stuff." A full radar analysis is due in a few months, the soil samples are still to be examined, and any deeper digging would wait for next year. His reply to the doubters is simple: "We'll go where the data goes."
