Turkey's domestic security process, parliamentary work and preparations for a Turkic states summit were among the subjects discussed when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahçeli at Beştepe, correspondent Paşa Alyurt reports.
The meeting forms a substantial opening chapter of Turkey's CNN TÜRK broadcast, titled "İSRAİL'DE SEÇİM GÜNÜ | Netanyahu Mu Eisenkot Mu? | CANLI HABER", meaning "Election day in Israel: Netanyahu or Eisenkot? Live news." The Israel coverage begins about 23 minutes into the recording, after discussion of Ankara's relations with other Turkic states.
Host Göksu Öngören Özgür and security commentator Coşkun Başbuğ first examine the Organization of Turkic States' economic and military potential. Başbuğ argues that closer cooperation alarms outside powers and that attempts to undermine Turkey's relationship with Azerbaijan will not succeed. These are his interpretations, rather than evidence presented of a specific external operation.
Başbuğ invokes the Shusha Declaration while discussing defense cooperation and the possibility of a common military force. He also recalls Turkish officers' support for Azerbaijan after independence. Images of Erdoğan and Bahçeli meeting appear during the discussion. Başbuğ suggests that Turkey's October 29 Republic Day celebrations could be a major agenda item; Alyurt subsequently reports the security process described by Turkish officials as a "terror-free Turkey," parliamentary business and summit preparations among the subjects covered.
The broadcast then turns to Israel's October 27 election through a retrospective on the war that began with the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. Its packaged report covers destruction and deaths in Gaza, Israeli attacks in Lebanon and Iran, international legal scrutiny and protests around the world.
The studio discussion offers sharply critical assessments of Israeli policy. News coordinator İdris Arıkan uses a map to argue that Israel is pursuing territorial expansion toward the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria. Journalist Zeki Gümüş emphasizes bombardment and intelligence operations in his account of how Israel conducts the war.
The report cites polls putting the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot, a former Israeli military chief, ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc. It does not establish a final election result. Arıkan's central assessment is that a different electoral outcome would not necessarily bring an end to the occupation policies he criticizes.
Turkey’s president since 2014, Erdoğan previously served as prime minister from 2003 to 2014. He co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP).
