The clearest commitment emerging from the Tehran meeting is to keep talking. According to host Ahmet Hakan's account of the joint declaration, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Iran agreed to continue discussions, a step his studio guests interpret as an opening for regional mediation rather than a new agreement ending hostilities.
Turkey's CNN TÜRK examines that distinction in "Ahmet Hakan ile Tarafsız Bölge | Mekke İttifakı Tahran'da | CANLI HABER," meaning "Live: Mecca alliance in Tehran." The program uses "Mecca Alliance" for Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, whose representatives meet Iranian officials in the footage.
The delegation includes Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın, Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman and Pakistan's military chief Asim Munir. Hakan also identifies Iran's Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of its Supreme National Security Council. Later footage shows Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian receiving the visiting delegation, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also appearing.
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi argues that the initiative demonstrates a diplomatic role beyond collective defense. In his reading, meeting in Tehran shows that the grouping is not an anti-Iran bloc or an exclusively Sunni project. He places the effort against the approaching Israeli and US elections and stresses the need to prevent another war. Hakan and Selvi also discuss Kalın's mediation work as carrying a direct mandate from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Other contributors offer different levels of certainty. Journalist İsmail Dükel welcomes the creation of a negotiating table but says its practical consequences must still be assessed. Hakan Bayrakçı suggests Yemen and the Houthis may have figured in the exchanges, explicitly labeling that a prediction rather than information. Foreign editor Mehmet Şimşek cites Arab media reports that Saudi Arabia requested the meeting.
Correspondents in Washington and Tel Aviv assess possible American and Israeli reactions. Those segments are analysis, not announcements of official responses. Hakan also reads Rezaei's statement on regional cooperation and foreign intervention.
The discussion is interrupted by footage of a large explosion near Saraqib, close to Idlib in northwestern Syria. Washington correspondent Yunus Paksoy relays the Syrian state news agency SANA's account that leftover wartime munitions exploded accidentally. Guests raise sabotage and attack scenarios, but the program does not establish those explanations.
Head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MİT), Kalın is a politician and academic specialising in Islamic philosophy.
