Working with Donald Trump need not mean setting aside disagreements with him, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani tells CNN. After Democrats' congressional victories, his argument is that voters expect practical improvements, not simply a change in who holds power.
Speaking with Jake Tapper, Mamdani interprets the results as support for policies addressing working-class Americans' daily struggles. He argues for an agenda that responds to exhaustion with the status quo, while defending cooperation with the president when it can benefit New Yorkers.
"The two of us are very open and very honest about the fact that we have an immense number of policy disagreements," Mamdani says. Later, he states his governing principle: "The point of winning power is to deliver for everyone."
The compilation then moves to Bernie Sanders, who gives Anderson Cooper a more confrontational prescription for Congress. The Vermont independent advocates Medicare for All and argues that Democrats should use control of congressional funding to end the Iran war. "What the Democrats can do is stop the war," he says.
CNN's video drew about 1.5 million views since yesterday. Rather than another election-map breakdown, it presents arguments about what the Democratic victories should produce.
In the closing interview, Pennsylvania Representative-elect Chris Rabb tells Kaitlan Collins that delivering economic progress and enforcing legal and ethical accountability need not be alternatives.
