Dodgers weather for Game 2: Chloe Carlson's forecast and CBS LA's weekend desk

A 6 a.m. weather report about the first pitch of the NLDS sat beside a Malibu crash, a Culver City vigil and six donated homes in Orange County.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Chloe Carlson's 6 a.m. Forecast is not usually where a news channel's attention gathers, but this Sunday's edition had baseball in it. The NEXT Weather report looked ahead to the Dodgers' NLDS Game 2 and promised a more bearable temperature at first pitch than fans sat through in Game 1. Within half a day it was the quickest-moving upload on CBS LA.

The rest of the weekend desk, mostly filed under KCAL Weekends, carried heavier news. The most watched new upload was the report on a 51-year-old Nobu employee who was killed while sitting in a parked car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, a block from the restaurant, when a teen driver hit him. Beside it came a deadly hit-and-run in North Hollywood and a vigil, where friends and family remembered the Culver City bus driver who was shot and killed while working earlier in the week.

One story ran the other way: Habitat for Humanity handed over six new homes in Orange County, and each came with a new car waiting in the garage.

Across fifteen uploads the channel kept to its usual rhythm, close to four million views over the week, a touch above an ordinary pace, with the subscriber count holding still. Among local news stations of its size, the noise was elsewhere: KTLA 5 had a very big week across town, and FOX 5 New York and FOX 26 Houston both ran well ahead of their usual, while CBS New York had a quieter stretch than normal.
