A 500cc big-block go kart goes dirt drag racing for CarsandCameras
The aluminum kart's only upload of the week passed 180,000 views in two days, and the comments turned into a workshop on cams, welds and rocks.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
We Built Our 500cc Big Block Aluminum Go Kart into a Dirt Drag Racer!
CarsandCameras took the 500cc big-block aluminum go kart it had already built and turned it into a dirt drag racer. That was the channel's one upload of the week, "We Built Our 500cc Big Block Aluminum Go Kart into a Dirt Drag Racer!", and it went up on October 1.
It found its crowd fast: about 130,000 views in its first day, past 180,000 a day later. For a channel built on small engines, mini bikes and homemade micro machines, this is the house formula, and one commenter summed it up as building a frame, finding it is not quite up to the engine, and adding more power anyway.
The comment section reads like a garage bench. The most liked tip skips welding up the cam lobe and suggests grinding down the base circle with longer pushrods instead. Others pick apart a broken aluminum weld and a lack of penetration, explain how to check valve clearance with modeling clay, and joke about the moment around 22 minutes in that someone dubs an "Ike-Skiderian cam." And a surprising number of viewers agree on one thing: Quinn needs a rock tumbler, apparently to polish some rocks that show up along the way.
The new kart is not working alone. The whole channel ran at nearly three times its usual daily pace, and two September builds are still pulling steady traffic: a 1000cc fuel-injected engine bought from overseas and bolted into a chopper, now past 400,000 views, and a homemade Predator 670 NASCAR taken to a real race track.
Among motorsport and off-road channels of its size, ThoughTaken, 4WD 24-7 and Kashius Alexander are having the louder weeks, while CarsandCameras sits right in the middle of the group, a big jump for a channel that usually moves more quietly.

Quinn needs a rock tumbler from harbor freight!
@TheDhylton1See it on YouTubeNow this is pure Cars & Cameras!
Create a go kart frame and bung a decent engine in it. Find out the frame isn't quite up to it in some places, so .... bung more power into it.
Thanks the kind of thinking I respect.@crunchyfrog555See it on YouTubeEveryone's always worried about the mad scientist, but no one ever checks on the happy scientists.

Predator engines, like the 670 in CarsandCameras' homemade NASCAR, are sold under the house brand of which retailer?
Predator is Harbor Freight's own brand of small gas engines, a favorite of go kart and mini bike builders.
