Fifteen years after it started it all, Cape York's flooded beach camp returns
Shaun Whale and Graham Cahill went back to the east coast beach run that launched them, slept on the roof when the tide came in, and passed two and a half million views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
NIGHTMARE FLOODED CAMP IN CROC COUNTRY… Sleeping On Our Roof To Survive
Which 4WD 24-7 video is everyone watching? Not the newest one. The Cape York beach run that went up nine days ago, "NIGHTMARE FLOODED CAMP IN CROC COUNTRY… Sleeping On Our Roof To Survive," is still drawing more views a day than anything else on the channel, close to three times the pace of this week's big Off-Grid episode.
The description frames it as a homecoming: this stretch of the remote east coast is where the whole thing began 15 years ago. Shaun Whale and Graham Cahill have 60 kilometers of sand, tidal crossings, quicksand and crocodiles to cover, and four days before the tide closes the beach. On the first night the water floods camp, so they sleep on the roof and then drive a kilometer out to sea to get clear. Oysters, a spit roast and a giant croc fill the rest.
The week's eleven uploads kept the Cape York thread going in short form: a Japanese-style glass fishing float found intact on a beach, and Uncle Grazza fishing while a croc the description calls bus-sized cruised past. The longer new piece, Graham's Winton run through Channel Country, said goodbye to Bianca and Jordon, and much of its comment section is farewells to the pair, with one viewer asking for a full breakdown of how to plan a multi-week trip.
The channel drew around four and a half million views over the seven days, well above its usual pace, and added about 10,000 subscribers. Among the off-road and motorsport channels around its size, only ThoughTaken gained more views this week, while John Hicks and CarsandCameras also ran ahead of their usual days.
