"No pollster is polling these folks," Mike Madrid tells George Conway. His concern is about who gets counted as likely to vote: if past participation is the guide, people showing up for the first time can be easy to miss.
In the Psycho Politics clip posted by The Bulwark, Madrid says younger Latino voters with little or no voting history are driving turnout at rates he has never seen before. He describes Latino turnout outpacing white and Black turnout, pointing to a pattern across New Jersey, Virginia, Florida, Texas and California.
Madrid, a former political director for the California Republican Party whose work has focused on Latino voting behavior, argues that this could matter in close contests. His point is not simply that young voters are participating, but that some of those participating are precisely the people pollsters might expect to stay home.
Conway supplies a Texas example: hundreds of thousands of early voters who did not vote in 2024, nearly half of them Hispanic, according to the figures he cites. The exchange presents an early-voting argument, not a result establishing how those voters cast their ballots.
The Short drew roughly 190,000 views in its first day, compared with around 16,000 for a typical Bulwark Short. Its title, "This has never happened before", captures Madrid's assessment of the turnout pattern, rather than a claim about the channel's unusually busy day.
