Tali saw a man shooting from a car, then rushed into a restaurant and hid upstairs. Interviewed near the scene in BBC News's live coverage, she describes finding shelter as gunfire broke out in Kraków's historic centre.
Her account adds a witness's experience to the police information in the BBC's earlier bulletin, as we reported here. Correspondent Magda Mis reports from the cordon, showing the normally crowded Main Market Square almost empty, with police and emergency services nearby.
Mis explains that the square would ordinarily be filled with tourists, diners and local people on a Saturday. As she walks through the surrounding streets, the camera shows closed shops, police tape and people waiting outside the restricted area. She notes that traffic is normally prohibited in the square.
The live broadcast carries an early police toll of five people killed. The BBC's subsequent report raised that to six, with more than a dozen injured, and said the suspect survived after officers shot him.
Presenter Martine Croxall also relays statements from Poland's leaders. At the scene, Mis's reporting follows the immediate disruption: people seeking shelter, businesses shut and pedestrian movement restricted around the square.
Poland’s second-largest city and its capital until 1596. Its Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
