Rewilding the backyard brings BBC Earth's nature stories home
A garden-focused Speed & Scale film joins winter hunting and big-cat encounters across four new uploads.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Unexpected Benefits of Rewilding Your Garden | Speed & Scale | BBC Earth
BBC Earth posted plenty of teeth and claws, but the week's largest new audience gathered around something closer to the back door. "The Unexpected Benefits of Rewilding Your Garden | Speed & Scale | BBC Earth" has reached about 286,000 views, making space for biodiversity alongside the channel's animal encounters.
The film presents giving nature more room in a garden as a way to support healthier ecosystems and human wellbeing. Its comments bring that idea down to backyard scale: viewers describe native wildflower patches, discuss replacing suburban lawn, and consider how a deliberately wild garden can still look cared for. One recurring thought is pleasantly counterintuitive: doing less gardening might leave more room for life.
The wildlife uploads offer rather less relaxation. "Deadly Animal Showdowns | BBC Earth" pairs a lioness facing a warthog with a fish that hunts pigeons. A separate bobcat film follows winter hunting along icy rivers. The newest arrival, "Extraordinary Big Cat Moments | BBC Earth," includes a leopard tackling an impala and a lion surrounded by hyenas. It currently has the strongest daily viewing of the channel's uploads, though the garden film remains the week's most watched newcomer.
Across the channel, weekly viewing reached roughly 8.8 million, just above WIRED's total among its documentary neighbors. Subscribers were unchanged, while daily views are running at less than a third of the usual pace. National Geographic is also experiencing slower daily viewing; VICE is above its usual level.
Beyond the week's additions, the Blue Planet III trailer is approaching a million views. Its ocean footage comes with David Attenborough's return and a musical collaboration featuring JADE and Hans Zimmer, another active destination on BBC Earth's shelf.

Funny how doing less in your garden can actually bring so much more life into it.
@instinctsauvage10xSee it on YouTubeThis really changed how I look at my own backyard. If every homeowner left even a small patch of native plants for wildlife, imagine how much of a difference it could make. Protecting nature doesn't always have to start in a national park.
@wildhawk911See it on YouTubeI'm slowly transitioning chunks of our suburban lawn to native gardens. One key point here is getting public buy-in. When you employ "cues to care" using native plants along with more traditional planting styles, native gardens can provide the same results as a "manicured" non-native garden. But with much greater benefits.

Less work for us, more life for them! Native plants need less care and give more back to the ecosystem. Win-win situation!
@PredatorsUsSee it on YouTubeDoing less in the garden can genuinely mean doing more for wildlife — a small wild patch becomes real habitat surprisingly fast. Native plants feeding pollinators while needing less water is a win on every level.
@FeralEarth-x7iSee it on YouTubeIf we all nurture native plants, imagine how much carbon we could store and how many pollinators we could save—one garden at a time!
