Chris Pratt's Uncle Jake gets a direct request from his bullied nephew: "Please, teach me how to fight." His answer is not quite what the boy has in mind. "Fighting people isn't the answer."

That exchange sets up Way of the Warrior Kid, the coming-of-age drama whose official trailer has drawn about 783,000 views in its first 15 hours on Apple TV's channel, far beyond its usual start for uploads of this length.

Pratt plays a Navy SEAL spending the summer with Marc, played by Jude Hill. His solution to Marc's troubles is "Operation Warrior Kid": early wake-ups announced with banging pots, a chalkboard exercise routine and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The trailer also makes room for studying and a quieter conversation about courage. Jake wants his nephew to learn more than how to land a punch.

The film adapts Jocko Willink's book, with McG directing and Linda Cardellini among the cast. Viewers are making the obvious but affectionate Karate Kid connection, while others recognize echoes of Pratt's Navy SEAL character James Reece in The Terminal List. One reader describes having shared the books with his son and looking forward to watching the adaptation together.

The comment section is already much busier than Apple TV's usual first day for short uploads. Beyond the action-role jokes, the book-to-screen connection gives this trailer a different kind of anticipation: parents and children who already know Marc's story will get to revisit it together when the film premieres November 25.
